The Rev. Matthew Fenn is pastor of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stratford, Ontario. Pastor Fenn is a native of Windsor, Ontario. He has a Bachelor of Divinity (B.D.) from the University of London and a graduate diploma from Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary in St. Catharines, Ontario.
Matthew was raised among the Jehovah’s Witnesses, and joined that religion at age 14. It was during his time as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses when he was challenged by Christian friends to pay closer attention to the Bible and its central message concerning the person and work of Jesus Christ. He became a Christian and spent some years in Evangelical circles. Eventually, his deepening convictions about the Christ and his free forgiveness of sinners which moved him to seek membership in the Lutheran Church.
He was received into membership at First Lutheran Church, Windsor, Ontario, in 2012 during the ministry of the Rev. Gilvan de Azevedo. Pastor Azevedo afterward enouraged Matthew to consider the Holy Ministry, and he enrolled at Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary in St. Catharines, Ontario. Pastor Fenn’s vicarage was under the Rev. James Wood in the dual parish at Dryden and Vermillion Bay in northwestern Ontario.
On May 25th, 2019, the Lutheran Church-Canada Board of Assignments called him to be pastor of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stratford, Ontario. He was ordained into the Office of the Holy Ministry on the day of Pentecost, 2019, at his home Church of First Lutheran. He was installed at St. Peter’s on July 14th, 2019.
It is devotion to Christ and his Gospel that drew Pastor Fenn into the ministry. His great desire is to help others to appreciate the life-giving message of the forgiveness of sins. It is his great joy to be able to preach, teach, and administer the Holy Sacraments to God’s people. He would love to talk with you about the great things God has done for all humanity in Christ, Jesus, the Lord and Savior of the world.
Pastor Fenn and his wife have been happily been married since 2015. A gracious God has blessed their union with two energetic boys. In his free time he enjoys reading sci-fi, fantasy, and historical fiction novels, computers, table-top games, hiking, live classical music and theatre, and other nerdy interests.
